THE NEW YORK TIMES, APRIL 16, 2015

From the moment the orchestra begins the overture to the King and I, you know you’re in for a great show. The quality of Richard Rodgers’ unforgettable music is just so rich, spontaneous applause breaks out. The story takes you to the royal court of Siam (present-day Thailand) in the early 1860’s. The King has hired Anna to provide a Western education for the children of his favored wives (of which he has many). Its all part of his plan to modernize Siam and protect it from encroaching Empires. Through a series of cultural misunderstandings and contentious encounters, Anna and the King forge a deep and touching friendship. Kelli O’Hara as Anna has never been in finer form than she is in this magical musical and Ken Watanabe as the King, makes a marvelous stage debut.
