Itinerary

Day 1 - GEORGETOWN/WILMINGTON/PHILADELPHIA AIRPORT
Afternoon departures takes us to Philadelphia Airport to board our overnight flight to Madrid.  Meals D IN FLIGHT

Day 2 - MADRID, SPAIN
Welcome to Madrid, Spain's capital and largest city.  Founded in 1561, Madrid has since served as Spain's geographic and spiritual heart, as well as the home of the Prado Museum.  Tonight, enjoy a welcome dinner.  Meals D

Day 3 - MADRID/TOLEDO/MADRID
A great day of guided touring includes Madrid's historic center, the Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor, where events have been held since the 17th-century.  A highlight today is your visit to the great Prado Museum that boasts the world's finest collections of art by masters such as Velazquez and Goya.  This afternoon travel to Toledo, the capital of medieval Spain until 1560.  A comprehensive tour highlights the magnificent Gothic cathedral and the 13th century synagogue.  Also stop in the Church of Santo Tome to view El Greco's masterpiece painting, The Burial of Count OrgazMeals B

Day 4 - MADRID/CORDOBA/SEVILLE
Travel to the extraordinary Moorish city of Cordoba - one of our favorite places in Spain!  Enjoy a tour of the Mezquita, a magnificent mosque, built by the Moors in the 8th century, which was converted into the city's cathedral in the 16th century.  This mosque is an architectural marvel, with double-tiered arches supported by 850 pillars of marble, alabaster and stone.  See the well preserved and historical old Jewish Quarter before moving on to Seville, considered Spain's "cultural capital."  Meals BD

Day 5 - SEVILLE AND A FLAMENCO SHOW
Another exciting day as you see Columbus' tomb, the ornate cathedral and Giralda Bell Tower, formerly a minaret which, when built, was the tallest tower in the world!  Then we'll walk through the quaint old Santa Cruz quarter with its bright flowers, white-washed buildings, and narrow, winding streets.  End your walk in the beautiful Maria Luisa Park, one of the loveliest in all of Europe.  A local flamenco dancer joins you for a typical "tapas lunch" featuring small portions of hot and cold specialties.  This evening, take your reserved seat for an authentic and exciting flamenco show.  Meals BL
MELIA SEVILLE OR MELIA LOBRECROS HOTEL

Day 6 - SEVILLE/GRANADA
Travel along the peaceful Sierra Nevada to Granada, the last great capital of the Moors in Spain before it fell to the catholic monarchs in 1492.  Join a local expert for a tour of the world-famous Alhambra, an immense hilltop palace.  Also tour the Generalife, meaning "garden of the architect" where the grounds are beautifully designed with waterfalls, courtyards and secret gardens.  Meals BD

Day 7 - GRANADA/VALENCIA
A lovely journey today through the amazing landscape of rolling hills dotted with picturesque olive groves enroute to the Mediterranean coast.  Arrive in the city of Valencia, a treasure trove of Roman and Arabic architecture.  A fun evening is planned where you will have a lesson on how to make the traditional Valencia Paella.  Afterwards, enjoy the delicious dinner you have created.  Meals BD

Day 8 - VALENCIA/BARCELONA
A city sightseeing tour of Valencia where you see the highlights of this historical city including the ornate 14th century Serranos Tower and the imposing 15th century Quart Tower.  A look at the bustling central market, one of the largest in Europe.  We'll stop at Lonja, the old Silk exchange, recognized by UNESCO as one of the most beautiful buildings of European civil architecture.  Continue along the coast to BarcelonaMeals B

Day 9 - BARCELONA
Tour this marvelous seaside city that lies on the Mediterranean.  It's vibrant and lively! Your tour showcases the Las Ramblas Boulevard, the Columbus Monument and the most unusual architecture of Antonio Gaudi.  Afternoon is at leisure to explore this colorful city or to enjoy an optional tour to the quaint mountain village of Montserrat with its unique stone formations.  Gather for our farewell dinner this evening celebrating your lovely trip to Spain.  Meals BD
HOTEL COLON BARCELONA

Day 10 - BARCELONA/HOME
Morning airport transfer to board our return flight to Philadelphia where transportation will return you to Wilmington and Georgetown.  Meals B & IN FLIGHT

Reservation deposit $250 due with each reservation no later than July 1, 2009.
Balance due September 1, 2009
Cancellations:  After September 1, 2009, no refunds unless you have taken insurance at an additional cost of $200 per person.
Trip cancellation/interruption insurance is recommended and available through 4 Seasons Tours and Travel.

A passport valid for 6 months after your return is required.
