The Outer Banks are a series of barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina and are home to beautiful beaches, historic monuments, lighthouses and “banker ponies”. At one time they were the home base of the pirate Blackbeard!  Several days of guided sightseeing and entertainment are included in your tour with accommodations at a beach front hotel. 

I T I N E R A R Y 


Morning departure takes us south and across the amazing Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel to Norfolk, VA for lunch at the Abbey Restaurant. Continue south to Kitty Hawk, NC, your home for three nights. Dinner at your hotel this evening.   Meals:L,D



Morning at leisure to enjoy the beach and relax before driving north to the delightful town of Duck. Enjoy the lovely shops before lunch at the Aqua S Restaurant. Following lunch depart for home, arriving in the late afternoon, first in Independence, followed by Newark and Wilmington.   Meals:B,L

Following breakfast meet your guide and depart for the Elizabethan Gardens with an herb garden, rose garden, spacious lawns and fountains. A highlight of the gardens is a unique collection of antique statuary. Next visit the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, the first English settlement in America. At the Roanoke Island Festival Park see the Elizabeth II, a 69-foot 16th century replica sailing ship of the type that brought colonists to the New World. There is also a restored Algonquin Indian village and costumed interpreters throughout. An independent lunch and shopping at historic downtown Manteo waterfront. This afternoon visit the Wright Brothers National Memorial where mankind learned to fly. The Memorial commemorates two ingenious brothers from Dayton, OH who chose the Outer Banks as the location to build the first plane and scientifically solve the problem of flight. Learn about the first flight, see the Memorial and visit the Visitors Center. Return to hotel to freshen-up before dinner, followed by the historical pageant The Lost Colony, complete with live choral music, dances, resplendent costumes and much more. Return to your hotel.   Meals:B,D


Day 3 -  LIGHTHOUSES AND SHIPWRECKS                              

Our guide will join us again as we depart for Cape Hatteras National Seashore to visit the Pea Island Wildlife Refuge to view egrets, ibis, migrating swans or snow geese, humongous snapping turtles and to visit the Visitor Center. Drive along the coast to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, recently moved 1/2 mile! You may climb it, if you wish, and visit The Museum of the Sea. Lunch at the Sandbar and Grille before you learn about the heroic efforts of the Outer Banks Surfmen at the Chicamacomico Life Saving Station Historic Site. Dinner at Pamlico’s Pirate Hideaway before returning to our hotel.   Meals:B,D
