Day 4 - STROKESTOWN PARK HOUSE AND FAMINE MUSEUM
Depart Galway this morning and travel north through farms and market towns to Strokestown Park House, dating from the 17th century.  Built for Thomas Mahon, a former Minister of Parliament, at one time his estate included the town of Strokestown.  This fine mansion shows the lifestyle of its affluent owners as well as the conditions of the servants and farmers of the area during the potato famine of 1840.  Visit the Potato Famine Museum housing a large collection of documents relating to the 1840's.  Continue to Cavan for dinner and overnight.    Meals BD

Day 5 - BOYNE VALLEY/DUBLIN
Travel south to see some of the most magnificent countryside Ireland has to offer.  The area is home to some of the best of Ireland's historic castles, monuments, passage tombs dating from 2,500 BC, and Megalithic Art (the use of large stones as an artistic medium) which began in the Neolithic Age.  At the Boyne Valley Visitor Centre see exhibits relating the history and sophisticated construction techniques of nearby passage tombs at Newgrange and Knowth.  Continue to Dublin, your home for two nights.  Enjoy the evening at leisure in independent activities and dining.  Meals B

Day 6 - DUBLIN TOUR AND ABBEY TAVERN
Your local guide will join you to show you around the prominent historic buildings and monuments of Dublin.  The city is a mixture of centuries of architectural styles, streets, and alleyways.  A stop at Trinity College, founded in 1592 by Elizabeth I on the site of an Augustinian monastery, will give you an opportunity to view the famous Book of Kells, the most richly decorated of Ireland's illuminated manuscripts.  Experience a change of pace as you visit the Guinness Storehouse to see how this famous stout was first created.  Finish your visit in the roof-top bar, Gravity, where you can have fine city views and sample a draft Guinness.  This evening head to the Abbey Tavern for dinner and a traditional ballad session.  Meals BD

Day 7 - POWERSCOURT GARDENS/GLENDALOUGH
Drive south from Dublin to visit Powerscourt Gardens, probably the finest in Ireland, renown for their designs and dramatic settings.  The house, originally built in 1731, was gutted by fire in 1974 but the ground floor and ballroom have been restored by the current owners.  Outstanding gardens and features include the Japanese Gardens; the Perron, a beautiful Italianate stairway beside the Triton Lake; the Pepper Pot Tower; and an abundance of beautiful flowers and trees.  Continue through the mountains to Glendalough, a 6th century monastic site established by St. Kevin.  The well-preserved round tower and church ruins are interesting to explore.  Learn the history of the settlement at the Visitor's Center.  Continue to Waterford, famous for its hand cut crystal.  Check into your hotel.  After dinner take a short walk along Merchant Quay where ships docked in former times.  Meals BD
